Spinal Decompression

After years of research a new and effective procedure for treating the spine and disc has arrived. It’s called non-surgical spinal decompression. This FDA cleared technology is non-invasive, pain free and drug free.

Our practice is focused in the area of spine and disc rehabilitation. So you can be sure that you are in the right place. And although we use a variety of modalities, non-surgical decompression is our primary therapy. Primary because of the overwhelming positive responses that patients have with it.

Spinal decompression is a gentle and proven therapy effective in the rehabilitation of spinal disc injuries and is currently considered one of the safest and most reliable therapies available today.

We bring this therapy to you in the hopes that we can give the relief you desire. You may consider the therapy a viable and reliable alternative to surgery.

We truly look forward to introducing you to the satisfying effects of spinal decompression. We’re confident that your experience will be a positive and satisfying one.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during our doctor of chiropractic’s intensive years of chiropractic education. Our Doctors use their hands to manipulate all joints of the body, not just the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. Chiropractic adjustments help to realign the body, resolve joint dysfunction and inflammation, increase joint and muscle mobility and reduce the patient’s pain.

Our Doctors like the whole body approach and not just focus on the area of pain, sometimes releasing an area away from the pain will cause the problem to go away. This is considered the referral pain pattern. Chiropractic adjustment is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. Our Doctors adapt the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and is thought to help accelerate the healing process. It can be used on patients who suffer from a variety of acute and chronic conditions in order to help eliminate pain, swelling, reduce spasms and increase functionality.

Cold lasers are handheld devices used by the clinician and are often the size of a flashlight. The laser is placed directly over the injured area for 30 seconds to several minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the dose provided by the cold laser unit. During this time, the non-thermal photons of light that are emitted from the laser pass through the skins layers (the dermis, epidermis, and the subcutaneous tissue or tissue fat under the skin). This light has the ability to penetrate 2 to 5 centimeters below the skin at 90mw and 830 nm.

Once the light energy passes through the layers of skin and reaches the target area, it is absorbed and interacts with the light sensitive elements in the cell. This process can be compared to photosynthesis in plants – sunlight is absorbed by plants, which is then converted to usable energy so that the plant can grow. When cells absorb this light energy, it initiates a series of events in the cell that is theorized to eventually result in normalizing damaged or injured tissue, a reduction in pain, inflammation, edema and an overall reduction in healing time by increasing intracellular metabolism.

Pettibon Cervical Traction

The Pettibon System has helped improve health in patients by emphasizing whole care that includes spine and posture correction, nutrition, and muscular development. With our rehabilitation tools patients actively participate in their care both at the clinic and at home. When patients come to the clinic, they don’t sit passively waiting to see the doctor or physical therapist. They prepare for their examination by doing warm up exercises and stretching their muscles, ligaments and discs using the Wobble Chair and the Repetitive Cervical Traction.

The Pettibon Cervical Traction is used for loading and unloading cycles that reestablish motion in the cervical and lumbar spine, hydrates discs, and prepares for restoration of cervical curves. A TMJ version is also available for those who cannot tolerate any pressure on their jaw or chin.

Electrical Stimulation Therapy

Electrical stimulation therapy is a therapeutic treatment that applies electrical stimulation in treating muscle spasms and pain. It can help prevent atrophy and build strength in patients with injuries. It is also helpful in keeping muscles active especially after any type of spinal cord injury or strokes.

Physical therapists and other medical practitioners attach electrodes on the patient’s skin, causing the target muscles to contract. With electric stimulation, the patient can maintain muscle tome and strength that would other wise waste away due to lack of usage.

Electric stimulation works by mimicking the natural way by which the body exercises its muscles. The electrodes attached to the skin deliver impulses that make the muscles contract. It is beneficial in increasing the patient’s range of motion and improves the circulation of the body. It is used in treating conditions like sprains, arthritis, back pain scoliosis and sciatica.

Electric stimulation can be muscular, general and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). The muscular type of electric stimulation seeks to strengthen the muscles by reducing muscle spasms. Also known as EMS, this stimulates the skeletal muscle using electric impulses to cause muscle contraction.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a therapeutic modality that has been used by physical therapists since the 1940s. Ultrasound is applied using a round-headed wand or probe that is put in direct contact with the patient’s skin. Ultrasound gel is used on all surfaces of the head in order to reduce friction and assist in the transmission of the ultrasonic waves. Therapeutic ultrasound is in the frequency range of about 0.8-3.0 MHz.

The waves are generated by a piezoelectric effect caused by the vibration of crystals within the head of the wand/probe. The sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues. This vibration or cavitation can cause a deep heating locally though usually no sensation of heat will be felt by the patient. In situations where a heating effect is not desirable, such as a fresh injury with acute inflammation, the ultrasound can be pulsed rather that continuously transmitted.

Ultrasound can produce many effects other than just the potential heating effect. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies, promote bone fracture healing. The intensity or power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the desired effect. A greater power density (measured in watt/cm) is often used in cases where scar tissue breakdown is the goal.

Ultrasound can also be used to achieve phonophoresis. This is a non-invasive way of administering medications to tissues below the skin; perfect for patients who are uncomfortable with injections. With this technique, the ultrasonic energy forces the medication through the skin. Cortisone, used to reduce inflammation, is one of the more commonly used substances delivered in this way.

Our Doctors like the whole body approacha of pain, sometimes releasing an area away from the pain will cause the problem to go away. This is considered the referral pain pattern. Chiropractic adjustment is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. Our Doctors adapt the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.
